I\u2019m 34 and work as a nurse. My younger brother dropped out of college and has never worked, yet my parents paid off his debt and even bought him a car. When I needed help, I got nothing. My dad simply said, \u201cYou don\u2019t need it,\u201d and I stayed quiet.<\/p>\n

At my wedding, I gave a speech thanking the people who supported me \u2014 friends, mentors, coworkers \u2014 without naming my parents. I didn\u2019t call them out directly, but I also didn\u2019t pretend everything had been fair. They were there, and they understood exactly what I meant.<\/p>\n

I wasn\u2019t trying to embarrass them. I just needed, for once, to acknowledge the truth and feel seen after years of holding it in.<\/p>\n

Since then, things have changed. We still talk, but everything feels distant and polite, like something unspoken is sitting between us.<\/p>\n
