I didn\u2019t even respond. I just sat there, hands shaking, trying not to cry.<\/p>\n

The next day, my boss called me into his office.<\/p>\n

My stomach dropped. I thought maybe Sarah had twisted the story, maybe I was in trouble. I walked in, bracing myself.<\/p>\n

He looked serious. Too serious.<\/p>\n

Then he said, \u201cClose the door.\u201d<\/p>\n

I did.<\/p>\n

He took a deep breath and said, \u201cI heard what Sarah said to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

I froze.<\/p>\n

Turns out, another coworker had reported everything\u2014and there were cameras that caught part of the exchange.<\/p>\n

My boss continued, \u201cNo one should ever speak to you like that. Especially not here.\u201d<\/p>\n

I felt my eyes fill with tears.<\/p>\n

Then he said something I\u2019ll never forget: \u201cWe\u2019re letting her go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just like that.<\/p>\n

But he wasn\u2019t done.<\/p>\n

He reached into his drawer and pulled out an envelope. Inside was money\u2014collected from the entire team.<\/p>\n
