I\u2019m a 25-year-old woman, recently married to my husband, who is 28.<\/p>\n
Last weekend, I decided to bring a special dish from my late mother\u2019s recipe collection to a family dinner at my in-laws\u2019 house.<\/p>\n
The moment I placed it on the table, my mother-in-law glared at me and coldly said, \u201cTake your mother\u2019s food out of my home.\u201d<\/p>\n
I was completely shocked. Fighting back tears, I quietly walked out and sat alone in the car for nearly an hour, waiting for my husband.<\/p>\n
When we finally drove home, the silence between us was painful. Then, out of nowhere, he started laughing and said, \u201cDid you hear the joke my cousin told during dinner? He\u2019s so funny\u2014he could honestly be a comedian.\u201d<\/p>\n
I couldn\u2019t believe it.<\/p>\n
Not only had he failed to notice that I had disappeared for almost an hour, but he also said nothing about the way his mother humiliated me in front of everyone.<\/p>\n
This was only the second family gathering I\u2019d attended since marrying into the family and only the third time I\u2019d ever met my mother-in-law.<\/p>\n
My own mother passed away just a year before our wedding, so my MIL never even knew her personally.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s why her hostility feels even more confusing and painful to me. I\u2019m devastated not only because I was embarrassed publicly, but because it felt like my mother\u2019s memory was insulted and rejected.<\/p>\n
What hurts most is my husband\u2019s complete lack of concern. He hasn\u2019t apologized, comforted me, or even acknowledged how deeply upsetting the situation was.<\/p>\n
