Father Thomas and Sister Mary were driving back to the monastery when their car sputtered to a halt in the middle of a torrential downpour. After an hour of failed repairs, they realized they were stranded for the night. They found a tiny, one-room cabin nearby, but it only had one small bed and a single sleeping bag.<\/p>\n

\u201cSister,\u201d Father Thomas said, ever the gentleman, \u201cI will take the floor in the sleeping bag. You take the bed. We shall maintain our dignity and our vows.\u201d<\/p>\n

They settled in, but ten minutes later, Sister Mary whispered, \u201cFather? I\u2019m terribly cold.\u201d<\/p>\n

Father Thomas sighed, crawled out of his bag, found an extra blanket in the closet, and draped it over her. \u201cThere you go, Sister.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ten minutes later: \u201cFather? I\u2019m still freezing.\u201d<\/p>\n

He got up again, found a second blanket, and tucked her in. \u201cRest now, Mary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Five minutes passed. \u201cFather\u2026 I\u2019m still so cold. I was thinking\u2026 just for tonight, maybe we could act as if we were married?\u201d<\/p>\n

Father Thomas paused. He felt a bit of a thrill at the suggestion. \u201cYou know what, Sister? You\u2019re right. Just for tonight, let\u2019s act as if we are married.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, wonderful!\u201d she chirped.<\/p>\n
