The husband blinked.
\n\u201cWhat?! Why would you do that?\u201d<\/p>\n

Before she could answer, flashing red and blue lights lit up the bedroom walls. Moments later, loud knocks shook the front door.<\/p>\n

Confused, the husband hurried downstairs again and opened it to find two police officers standing outside.<\/p>\n

\u201cSir,\u201d one officer asked carefully, \u201cwhere\u2019s the burglar?\u201d<\/p>\n

The husband rubbed his eyes. \u201cThere isn\u2019t one.\u201d<\/p>\n

The officers exchanged glances.<\/p>\n

Just then, the wife appeared at the top of the stairs with folded arms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere may not be a burglar,\u201d she said, \u201cbut there is someone who sleeps through every emergency.\u201d<\/p>\n

The husband froze.<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cLast month it was the smoke alarm. Last week it was the leaking pipe. Tonight I just wanted to know if you\u2019d actually get up when I needed help.\u201d<\/p>\n

The officers tried\u2014and failed\u2014to hide their smiles.<\/p>\n

One of them chuckled. \u201cWell, sir\u2026 good news is your house is safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The other added, \u201cBad news? Sounds like you\u2019ve got some explaining to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

The husband looked at his wife, still holding the baseball bat and standing in his boxers, and sighed.<\/p>\n
