  • MY RELATIVES THOUGHT GRANDMA’S FINAL PURCHASE WAS JUST A WHEELCHAIR. THEY DIDN’T KNOW WHAT IT MEANT TO HER—or why she had spent the money I sent so quickly. THEN I FOUND HER HANDWRITTEN LETTER. IT REVEALED YEARS OF QUIET SACRIFICE, A SECRET SHE HAD NEVER SHARED, AND THE REASON SHE TRUSTED ME WHEN EVERYONE ELSE TURNED AWAY. I WISH I COULD HAVE TOLD HER HOW MUCH SHE MEANT TO ME.
  • TWO DAYS BEFORE SHE DIED, MY GRANDMA SENT ONE SIMPLE MESSAGE: “CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME?” MY RELATIVES READ IT AND MOVED ON WITH THEIR LIVES. I SENT HER THE MONEY I HAD BEEN SAVING FOR MY FUTURE. THE NEXT MORNING, I FOUND A WHEELCHAIR IN HER HOUSE AND A LETTER WITH MY NAME ON IT. AFTER READING THE FIRST FEW LINES, I COULDN’T STOP CRYING.
  • MY GRANDMA NEVER ASKED FOR MUCH. SO WHEN SHE FINALLY BEGGED OUR FAMILY FOR MONEY, I THOUGHT SOMEONE WOULD HELP HER. NO ONE DID. I SENT WHAT I COULD, AND THAT NIGHT, SHE PASSED AWAY. WHEN I FOUND HER LETTER, I LEARNED WHY SHE HAD CHOSEN ME TO HELP HER—and what she had quietly done for my family years earlier.
  • EVERYONE IN OUR FAMILY CHAT SAW GRANDMA’S MESSAGE. EVERYONE HAD AN EXCUSE. I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO HELPED HER. AFTER SHE DIED, I DISCOVERED SHE HAD SPENT MY MONEY ON SOMETHING THAT WOULD LET HER ENJOY HER LAST HOURS AT HOME. BUT THE LETTER SHE LEFT FOR ME REVEALED THAT SHE HAD SACRIFICED SOMETHING PRECIOUS FOR ME LONG BEFORE I EVER HELPED HER.
  • MY FAMILY IGNORED GRANDMA WHEN SHE BEGGED FOR MONEY. I ALMOST DID, TOO, UNTIL I REALIZED HOW DESPERATE HER MESSAGE SOUNDED. I SENT HER $1,200, NEVER EXPECTING IT WOULD BE THE LAST GIFT I’D EVER GIVE HER. THE NEXT MORNING, I FOUND HER EMPTY HOUSE, A NEW WHEELCHAIR, AND A LETTER THAT BROKE MY HEART.
